Three Things that Boost Creativity

August 20, 2012 — 1 Comment

We all have those days when we’re just stuck. Our creativity seems to just have flown out the window and refuses to fly back…

It’s the worst feeling; having a great idea but not having the mental capacity to bring it to life, in whatever form you’d like.

It’s happened all too many times to me. So many times in fact that I have found a solution! One that has not just worked for me but for those around me.

Creative inspiration is different for everybody, from where it comes from to how it is presented to you… but I have seen with a simple addition of these three things:

  • laughter,
  • motivation,
  • and empowerment

the wall comes down and you’re able to produce your art.

See, the laughter gets your mind off of the problem (not being able to produce), the motivation calls you to be better (and allows you to see if someone else can do it, you can too), and the empowering pushes you to do what you have to do (because you were always able to).

I have used comic strips, photographs, and lists to fulfill these three creativity boosters but lately I have found myself using online videos. They’re more accessible, and can’t be eaten by your dogs ;)

These are the three videos I have been using to enhance my creativity!

For motivation, I watch this TED talk. Taryn Simon is an amazing photographer. The stories she weaves into her photographs are amazing and push me to do more than just capture my subject with my lens.

For empowerment, I check out this song because it’s lyrics couldn’t be more true. God will never give you more than you can take.

For laughter, this video is number one. I always feel bad but when I see her get back up…not so much lol.
