I’ve blogged for a little over a year and I have definitely had some fun but most importantly: I learned.
I found that there were 10 things that every blogger should know whether just beginning or having been in the business for a while.
1. “Quality not quantity”
The saying doesn’t only apply to friends.
2. Your community is your money maker.
Companies care more about interactions within your community than size. Work at attaining comments and reactions to your work.
3. People have short attention spans.
Keep your posts short. If a long post is necessary break it into a series.
4. Sweepers are not Readers.
Don’t use giveaways to lure in readers. Once the giveaways are gone your audience will be too.
5. Simple and clean is best.
You dont need a lot of plugins/widgets for your blog to look aesthetically pleasing.
6. Titles are like the cover of a book…
and people DO judge books by their cover. Make your titles catchy. They’re what pull your audience in.
7. Gizmodo, Lifehacker, CNN, Read Write Web etc. already have it covered.
Post reactions to the latest news, not the actual news. Your readers will appreciate that much more.
8. People are selfish.
Before writing a post understand and develop how it will help your readers.
9. Pictures make your blog appealing.
They are the peanut butter to your post’s jelly.
10. Consistency is key.
Try to write at least 3 blog posts a week to keep both your readers and google crawlers coming back.
What about you? What have you learned while blogging?
